Dr Ana Lopez Ballesteros
Ana’s previous research was focused on carbon and water cycling in water-limited areas, including both natural (grasslands, shrublands, savannas and forests) and managed (wetlands, olive orchards) ecosystems, which overall comprise one third of the global land surface. She has investigated how land degradation, climate extremes or sustainable management strategies can affect the carbon sequestration capacity and functioning of drylands by using the eddy covariance technique as well as satellite imagery and flux chamber measurements.
Supporting EU-African Cooperation on Research Infrastructures for Food Security and Greenhouse Gas Observations (SEACRIFOG).
This project tries to develop an integrative network for long-term and sustainable cooperation among African and European environmental research infrastructures, concretely those related to observation of carbon cycle, greenhouse gases and air quality measurements to support adaptation to and mitigation of climate change.
