School and College policies and supports

Meeting hour policy
Any staff member who is organising a meeting should make every reasonable effort to schedule the meeting starts and finishes within the times of 10.00am to 4.00pm, Monday to Friday. The full text of this policy can be found here.

Right to disconnect
Members of the School are not expected to read or reply to email outside of normal working hours (except in exceptional circumstances). This policy recognises the right for people to disconnect from their job. Although emails can be sent at any time, there is no obligation on the receiver to view, respond to, or do any work associated with, out of hours email until normal working hours.

Yearly development meetings
Line managers and staff for whom line managers are responsible will hold a review and discussion meeting annually.  More information on the College Performance and Development Scheme can be found here and policy of the School of Natural Sciences can be found in EDI Policies.

Bullying and Harassment
The Dignity, Respect and Consent Service provides information and support about the Dignity and Respect and Sexual Misconduct policies and processes to Staff. This information and support is available to those wishing to make a disclosure, raise a complaint or who have had a complaint made against them. Speak Out provides the opportunity for you to make the University aware of incidents that you have either experienced or witnessed by reporting them anonymously. The College’s policy on Dignity and Respect can be found here. This policy includes information on resolving issues through both informal and formal means.

Induction for new staff members
New staff will find the general induction handbook on the Human Resources website. The School of Natural Sciences specific induction handbook can be found here.

Leave policies
Details on policies relating to maternity, paternity, adoption and parental leave can be found on the Human Resources website. Other leave policies (including those relating to career breaks, carer’s leave and sick leave) can also be found here.

Childcare
Trinity has an on-site day nursery, which is open to children of both staff and students. This service is available from 8am to 6pm during term time, and 8am to 5:15pm during summer time.

Breastfeeding
Policies are in place to support breastfeeding mothers. Staff who are breastfeeding can take one hour per day to do so, and this arrangement is available for as long as the mother chooses or until the child is two years old.

Flexible working
Trinity offers a number of schemes for flexible working, including the shorter working year scheme and teleworking. It may also be possible for research staff to negotiate flexible working with their individual supervisors, allowing for informal flexible working arrangements.

Mentoring
Informal mentoring is common throughout the School. Additional formal mentoring can be arranged through Human Resources. A number of mentoring schemes are available, including the Early Career Mentoring Initiative for Academics, the Momentum Programme for Academics and the Professional Primary Skills for Researchers Programme.
