The School of Natural Science conducts research, and delivers teaching, on all aspects of the natural world, from the formation of the earth, the behaviour of the environment, the evolution and ecology of its organisms and its interactions with human society. We are engaged with solving some of the major challenges facing human society through our teaching, research and partnership with industry and policy development both nationally and globally.
The School comprises the Disciplines of Botany, Geography, Geology and Zoology. We have three research centres linked to the school: Centre for the Environment, Nature+ and Climate+ Co-centre. We also have five Museum and Garden sites: TCD Herbarium, Trinity College Botanic Gardens, Freeman Library, Geological Museum and Zoological Museum.
We currently accommodate ca. 40 academic staff, 25 support staff, 20 postdoctoral research fellows and over 100 graduate research students. We have an annual research income in excess of €4 million and produce an average of 150 publications per year.
The School currently delivers eight undergraduate, five taught masters degree programmes, and one micro-credential. Explore our school and discipline websites for more information.
